When you want a consistent width between your quilt lines you can use painters masking tape (I would imagine that any masking tape would work, this just happens to be what I had on hand).  Each strip will last three or four times and you just sew right next to it.  Masking tape comes in a variety of widths and it goes on quickly and keeps all your lines precise.

Happy Quilting!
